General
The new Packetmaster EX series replaces the very successful Packetmaster XL. The “EX” stands for extension and thus the Packetmaster EX5 extends the amount of ports dramatically. The Packetmaster EX5 supports 48 x 1 Gbit and 4 x 10G ports . Each of the 10 ports can be loaded with a SFP+ or SFP which can be singlemode as well as multimode, or copper. Each port can have an output and or an input functionality. IPV4 and IPv6 support.
No additional software cost all applications included in the unit price.
Today the configuration is done via a CLI a graphical GUI is on the roadmap and will come up shortly.
General Functions
Aggregation:
Traffic aggregation from many input ports to one or many output ports.
This works also with different Link Speed, e.g. 10 G input - 1 G output.
Filtering:
4000 flow rules (filters) can be set in the unit, you can filter on VLAN, MAC, IP, PORT and some more fields found in packets. This filter can work with all other options together.
Available options are: drop, send to output port, modify, add vlan, strip vlan
Add VLAN:
The unit can tag a vlan on the input to separate the traffic after aggregation
Strip VLAN:
Undesired VLANs can be removed
Change VLAN ID :
Automatic VLAN ID change functionality
Modify:
You can modify fields in the packet if you want: MAC, IP, PORT, and TOS
Reassembly:
If you have fragmented traffic the EX can reassemble it for you for easier tracing
Generate NETFLOWS and sFLOWS:
The EX48 can send standard flows to collector devices to monitor the traffic processed by the EX 5.
